Surgical Decommissioning for Legacy Cloud Infrastructure

Retire Legacy Cloud Services.
Without Taking Down Production.

Stop guessing if an abandoned container or volume is still in use. RetireRight maps cross-service shared dependencies, verifies traffic silence through active network probes, and safely deprovisions resources with cryptographic audit proof.

✓ Docker & Cloud Containers
✓ Shared Resource Protection
✓ Active Ingress Traffic Silence Probing
✓ Cryptographic Decommission Certificates

1-Minute Integration

Start Decommissioning in 60 Seconds

No agent required on target hosts. Runs locally via CLI or continuously in GitHub Actions.

npx retireright init # Scaffold retireright.config.json & license
npx retireright plan --service billing-worker-v1 # Compile digest-bound plan

Discovers container dependencies, enforces retention holds on shared volumes, and generates cryptographic plan digests.

Interactive Decommission Simulator

Decommission a legacy billing reporting worker (billing-worker-v1) that shares a database volume with live production.

retireright-orchestrator // pipeline
STANDBY
// Target Service: billing-worker-v1 (Host: production-cluster-01)
// Discovered: 1 container, 1 bridge network, 1 persistent volume (shared)
// Ready. Click "Decommission billing-worker-v1" to run 5-stage pipeline.

Zero-Accident Protocol

The 5-Phase Decommissioning Pipeline

Every retirement follows strict mathematical state transitions: planned → approved → quarantined → rechecked → completed.

PHASE 1

Graph Discovery

Detects all containers, networks, and shared volumes across services.

PHASE 2

Retention Holds

Automatically places retention holds on shared volumes to block accidental deletion.

PHASE 3

Silence Probes

Drains routes and samples ingress traffic. Asserts 0 packets over observation window.

PHASE 4

Exact Deprovision

Tears down only approved ephemeral entities using exact provider IDs.

PHASE 5

Audit Certificate

Issues signed SHA-256 certificate proving exact deprovisioning and preserved state.

Predictable Commercial Pricing

Safe Decommissioning with Bounded Runs

Eliminate 15–30% of cloud waste in abandoned instances, disks, and dangling egress gateways without risking production uptime.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does RetireRight differ from cloud-nuke or Terraform destroy?

Tools like cloud-nuke indiscriminately wipe resources by tag or account. RetireRight maps cross-service shared dependencies first. If a database or volume is shared with another service, RetireRight locks it in retention and refuses to delete it.

What happens if traffic appears during the quarantine phase?

During the quarantine observation window, active network probes monitor ingress sockets. If a single packet or HTTP request is detected, the pipeline automatically aborts the decommission and notifies the service owner.

Are persistent database volumes ever deleted automatically?

Never by default. Persistent volumes, databases, and backup archives default to strict retention holds. Destruction requires explicit cryptographic preservation proof and a separate administrator approval.
